Before BB-8, there was R2-D2. Who am I kidding? R2 is still the number 1 droid in the hearts of Star Wars fans. If you’ve always wanted an R2-D2, the app-enabled R2-D2 droid allows you to live out adventures from a galaxy far far away… in your living room!
R2-D2 has always been a sort of simple robot. His movement is really just wheels and he is always ready to help when you need him. Beyond that though, he captured all our hearts throughout the Star Wars franchise by befriending the entire Skywalker family and their friends.
Cool Features of the R2-D2 Droid
The movement on this R2-D2 droid is just as good as the movies. Fun fact, a person actually wore the suit to play R2-D2! Using the app, you can drive R2 with your device and change its stance from bipod to tripod stances. As an extra feature, the app can also trigger some classic emotive waddles you’d expect from R2-D2.
With integrated speakers and LEDs, the R2-D2 droid wastes no time in creating sounds and performing little R2-D2 emotes. Even down to the head spinning thing! The front and rear lights are actually fully-functional which makes it look a lot like a mini-movie version.
If you download the Sphero Edu app while using specific character commands, you can even program R2-D2 to perform some STEM activities for you. Whether its a bit of math, a quick little trick, or a movie reference, this R2-D2 droid has got you covered!
Another cool feature of the R2-D2 droid is the “Watch With Me” ability which allows you to have an authentic cinematic experience with R2 reacting to movies from the Star Wars saga by your side!
So we have cool animations, quirky features, programming, and even STEM capabilities, what else is new? Well, the R2-D2 droid is also capable of working on its own, through the app or a cool little device called a Force Band.
Lastly, its holographic simulation feature allows you to explore the Star Wars galaxy, roam different ship interiors, and a lot more. Its Bluetooth range is also pretty great with a 30-meter range.
